Key Lessons from My Dropshipping Experience in 2024

On a random evening in 2024, I get a strong urge to start something I always thought about for a business idea; drop shipping. I have to admit though that at this time, my business skills are little to none. This is owing to the fact that I pursued a Science degree in electrical and electronics engineering and I computer studies in high school. Understanding the basics of an e-commerce store therefore has a toll order on me (at least before enrolling for an online course on business months later). Despite this, I have a strong urge to try it and see where I can go with the idea.

So I now setup a store on Shopify after doing some research on some of the best platforms to do drop shipping. I intuitively navigate through this brand, often encountering challenges such as integrating drop shippers to the store and figuring out whether to do the fulfillment services on the store or just run the campaigns and leave the heavy lifting to the suppliers.

That is the point at which I gave up weeks later and I have to admit that was not the right thing to do. My issue was lack of proper information on how to make the supply chain work. Let’s say you are in Africa and all the drop shipping agents available are overseas. This is a significant headache on how the local delivery will be made especially if you are directly involved in the order fulfillment process.

Thanks to the internet, there are so many places one can look for potential suppliers and in my case I happened to recently land on a trusted supplier. The intricate processes one has to maneuver before landing a trusted supplier are overwhelming and for that I cannot blame myself for giving up earlier. But this year I have decided to fight back against this hindrance. I am reviving my store on Shopify and I will make sure I make this store work. All I can say is, keep going forward because giving up is okay but not getting up and trying again is not an option.

So here I am; I just started a drop shipping course at Skool, and plan on making my dream come true.
